New Check-in Procedures

All teams must check-in one hour before their first game, if that is not possible you must check-in before the start of your second game. Check-in is available in lobby of Martinez Center. If you do not check-in before the second game all games will be forfeited. Here are check-in specifics:

1. All Players must be in attendance.

2. Copy of Team Roster

3. Copy of AAU memberships for coaches and players

4. Birth Certificate (Record) Challenge - In lieu of turning in birth certificates and/or grade exception forms (if applicable) at each tournament, AAU Girls Basketball is instituting the Birth Certificate Challenge system. Approved birth records* and/or grade exception forms (if applicable) must be carried to every game. If the opposing coach challenges the age of any players, the challenged coach must produce the birth certificate of those players before they can play in the game. If challenged players’ birth certificates cannot be produced, they cannot play in that game until they are provided. If birth certificates are produced at any point in the game, they are then eligible to participate. If there are not 5 players eligible to start a game, the game will be declared a forfeit.

Hospital Records are not an acceptable form of birth certification.

*a.  A certified copy of birth record from the State, County or Municipal Bureau of Vital Statistics in the place of birth

*b.  A certified copy of the delayed registration of birth, if the athlete’s birth was not recorded on her day of birth, issued by the same governing bodies

Bench Attire -

All bench personnel, both male and female, must adhere to the Coaches’ Dress Code by wearing a shirt with a collar, or a "Think Pink" commemorative T-Shirt, long pants or dress shorts/skirts and closed toe shoes. No HEAD ATTIRE may be worn while on the bench. Game Officials shall have full and final authority to interpret this rule. Each violation to the bench rule will result in a technical foul (administrative, not charged to the coach.) Example: If a person is charged with the technical foul then he/she must leave the bench area until his/her attire meets the code.

Commemorative T-Shirt - Each Player and One Coach from each team will receive a t-shirt at check-in!

On sale at all sites will be our "Think Pink" commenmorative T-Shirt. There are limited quantities of this t-shirt which will sell for just $10.00! We will donate to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund $5.00 from every T-Shirt sold.

Unfortunately we were not able to obtain the Pink Shoe Laces from a supplier that would donate the proceeds to the Kay Yow Fund. The amount of that the tournament would have spent on the shoes laces is being donated instead to the foundation. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Throughout the tournament we will be playing with a Pink and White Basketball. The balls have the Breast Cancer ribbon embossed on the ball.

Meet Kay Yow

The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was a past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and a galvanizing voice for the Association.Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. In her 38 years as a head coach at the college-level, Yow was one of only six Division I head women's basketball mentors to achieve 700 career victories. Yow was also the head coach of the 1988 US Olympic Team that won the gold medal in Seoul. Click here for complete biography.

History

The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund™ was announced on December 3, 2007, during the Jimmy V Classic. The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund™, in partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, will raise money in the fight against women's cancers. It was appropriate to announce this Fund during the Jimmy V Classic because of the connection between the late Jim Valvano, former North Carolina State head men's basketball coach, and the late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach. The Fund was the first women's initiative that the WBCA has chosen in its 28-year history, and is also the newest women's initiative for The V Foundation.

Mission

The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund™ is a 501 c(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
